ReCAAP, which stands for Regional Cooperation Agreement On Combating Piracy And Armed Robbery Against Ships In Asia, is the first regional government-to-government agreement to deal with piracy in Asia.
An important element of the ReCAAP Agreement is the setting up of the ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) as an independent international organisation. This centre, to be hosted in Singapore, will facilitate information sharing to improve incident response by member countries, analyse and produce reports on the piracy and armed robbery situation in the Asian region, and support capacity-building efforts in relevant areas. The ISC’s official opening is on 29 November 2006.
More information on ReCAAP can be found here.
