International Aviation Centre

We aim to develop Singapore into a key International Aviation Centre (IAC). This vision encapsulates the development of several key clusters such as airport-related activities and services, aircraft leasing and financing, aircraft maintenance and manufacturing as well as other aviation-related activities. This would enable Singapore to provide a comprehensive range of air transport and aviation services to the international aviation community that is commensurate with its status as a major air hub.

We contribute actively to the international civil aviation movement through the following two platforms.

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Singapore was elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in March 2003. Since our independence in 1965, Singapore has been a member of this esteemed international organisation. Together with other ICAO member states, we have worked towards ICAO’s mission of promoting safety, security and reliability in international civil aviation. Singapore has participated actively in many ICAO panels, committees, working groups and taskforces to share our aviation expertise. We have also hosted numerous ICAO Seminars and meetings at the Singapore Aviation Academy.

Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA)

The Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA) is the internationally-recognised training arm of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. Made up of three specialised schools – School of Aviation Management, School of Air Traffic Services and School of Airport Emergency Services - SAA has trained more than 31,000 participants from over 180 countries.

SAA was conferred the prestigious 34th Edward Warner Award by the ICAO Council on behalf of its 185 member States in 2000 “in recognition of its eminent contribution as a centre of excellence in international civil aviation training”. In 2004, SAA established an International Advisory Council, chaired by the Minister for Transport, to help steer the Academy as a centre of excellence for training to meet the new challenges and emerging trends in the aviation industry.

To support the rapidly changing aviation environment, SAA offers a comprehensive range of innovative programmes for both operational and top-level management personnel. It provides a forum for information sharing and networking amongst managers and specialists in the international civil aviation community, through its organistion or conferences, seminars and workshops, as well as hosting of international meetings and conferences.
