Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Impact of SG Bike's Exit on Singaporean Bike Users

07 May 2024In Parliament

Mr Sitoh Yih Pin asked the Minister for Transport

a.     whether LTA has any concerns on the bicycle-sharing market in view of the exit of SG Bike which leaves only Anywheel and HelloRide as the remaining operators; and

b.    whether this development will adversely affect Singaporean users of such services in terms of price and experience.

Reply by Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat:

1.     The Land Transport Authority (LTA) does not expect a significant impact to the provision of shared bicycle services in Singapore. Prior to SG Bike’s decision not to renew its licence, it was operating with an approved fleet size of 1,500 bicycles, compared to the combined approved fleet size of 40,000 bicycles for Anywheel and HelloRide.

2.     LTA will continue to monitor the state of the industry.
