Road Network

We have made significant investments in our road infrastructure over the years to ensure good connectivity for people and goods. However, this takes up precious land space. There are more than 9,000 lane-kilometres of roads in Singapore, which take up 12% of our land. In view of the scarcity of available land and the increasing construction costs, we will focus on new development areas and public transport needs when building new roads. Where appropriate, we will also build roads to strategically improve connectivity. One such road project that was completed in end-2020 is the expansion of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway and the Tampines Expressway (KPE/TPE) Interchange, which improves accessibility and addresses the traffic needs of Punggol town.
