Improving Resource Efficiency

We strive to maximise our resources through measures such as limiting the growth of private transport and encouraging fuel efficiency. By achieving more with less, we are in a better position to ensure long-term economic growth.

Managing Private Transport Usage

To manage private transport usage and conserve road space, we have implemented several measures. These include controlling the vehicle population growth rate, refining our Electronic Road Pricing system, and improving schemes that reduce car usage, such as the Off-Peak Car scheme and Park & Ride scheme.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy for both public and private transport is also integral to resource efficiency. For mass public transport, LTA has put in place the Green Framework for rail systems, and is carrying out the test-bedding of new technologies such as electric vehicles.

The National Environment Agency and LTA have introduced the Vehicular Emissions Label (VEL) to replace the Fuel Economy Label for cars. This new label will display the fuel economy of the car, in addition to the emissions bands of five pollutants, as required under the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) which came into place on 1 Jan 2018.

Consumers can easily compare fuel economy and carbon emissions across vehicle models using the Fuel Cost Calculator .
