Improving Resource Efficiency

We strive to maximise our resources through measures such as limiting the growth of private transport and encouraging fuel efficiency. By achieving more with less, we are in a better position to ensure long-term economic growth.

Managing Private Transport Usage

To manage private transport usage and conserve road space, we have implemented several measures. These include controlling the vehicle population growth rate, refining our Electronic Road Pricing system, and improving schemes that reduce car usage, such as the Off-Peak Car scheme and Park & Ride scheme.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy for both public and private transport is also integral to resource efficiency. For mass public transport, LTA has put in place the Green Framework for rail systems, and is carrying out the test-bedding of new technologies such as electric vehicles.

For taxis and private cars, LTA has introduced the mandatory Fuel Economy Labelling Scheme (FELS) to promote the adoption of more fuel-efficient vehicle models. Under FELS, cars and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) that are displayed for sale are required to be affixed with a label that provides potential buyers with the vehicle's fuel economy data. FELS provides the necessary information for car buyers to find car models with better fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

LTA has also set up a new online database and the fuel cost calculator so that consumers can easily compare fuel economy and carbon emissions across vehicle models.
