Careers in Maritime

Singapore's maritime sector employs over 170,000 people in a wide range of maritime careers, including both seafaring and shore-based jobs. To drive the future growth of the maritime industry, we will continue to work alongside the private sector to build a steady pipeline of maritime talent.

Maritime Manpower Initiative

The MaritimeONE (Outreach NEtwork) is the key manpower initiative for maritime stakeholders to collectively raise awareness of the maritime industry as well as to profile education and career opportunities to the students and committed individuals.

It was launched in April 2007 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and Singapore Shipping Association (SSA).

Through the MaritimeONE partnership, participants have access to industry awareness talks, scholarship offers, student outreach events and regular networking events for employers and tertiary students .

Dedicated Career Portal

The Singapore Maritime Careers portal is a gateway to a full range of education and training opportunities, including scholarships and attachment programmes. It also provides information on grants for manpower training and co-funding support for the manpower development initiatives of our maritime companies.

Maritime Research and Training

The Singapore Maritime Institute was established in 2011 to advance maritime research and training. It aims to develop strategies and programmes related to the academic, policy and R&D aspects of the maritime industry. The key focus areas include sectors such as shipping, port and maritime services, as well as offshore and marine engineering.

Extensive R&D Enhances Capabilities

A $150 million Maritime Innovation and Technology (MINT) Fund was established to co-fund the development of maritime R&D initiatives. Maritime R&D agreements have also been signed both locally and overseas with various research institutions for collaborative projects.
