Written Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan to Parliamentary Question on Review of Criteria for Building Lifts at Overhead Bridges given Ageing Population

05 Aug 2019 In Parliament

Ms Joan Pereira asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider reviewing its criteria for building lifts at selected overhead bridges especially with an ageing population that faces mobility challenges.

Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan:

1.     LTA has installed lifts at 47 pedestrian overhead bridges over the last five years. This programme will be expanded to benefit the public through 50 more pedestrian overhead bridges by 2022.

2.     Given the high project cost, as high as $4 million per pair of lifts, we must be prudent and have to prioritise our efforts. LTA will focus on locations which most benefit seniors and commuters with mobility challenges, such as public transport nodes and healthcare institutions.
