Ms Valerie Lee asked the Acting Minister for Transport in each year since 2022
a. what is the average number of complaints that have been received on property damage arising from works carried out by or on behalf of the Land Transport Authority;
b. how many of these have resulted in compensation; and
c. what are the most common causes and mitigation measures.
Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. Since 2022, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has averaged about 100 complaints annually alleging property damage arising from LTA construction works. These are investigated thoroughly and only a handful of cases each year were assessed to have been caused by the construction works with compensation paid. Given the small number of cases, it is challenging to identify common causes.
2. To mitigate such risks, contractors are required to ensure that workers are adequately trained, and brief workers daily on potential hazards and safety measures.
