Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether inadequate telecommunications coverage in some private estates, particularly condominiums, is limiting the deployment or reliable operation of EV chargers; and
b. how is the Ministry working with relevant Government agencies and telecommunications operators to identify and address such connectivity gaps as Singapore scales up the EV charging infrastructure.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow
1. Electric Vehicle Charging Operators (EVCOs) consider various factors in the deployment of EV Chargers, including telecommunications network coverage. Where there are connectivity issues, EVCOs address them by relocating the deployment of EV chargers to areas with stronger network coverage and/or installing network signal enhancement equipment.
2. Mobile operators are required by the Infocomm Media Development Authority to provide network coverage of at least 85% within buildings. If mobile operators’ overall network coverage for a building falls below 85%, they are required to take action to improve.
