Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether a comprehensive assessment of the causes of recurring long traffic jams along Loyang Avenue and at the intersections with Pasir Ris Drive 3, including traffic volumes, traffic origin, junction capacity and merging patterns has been conducted; and
b. what further measures are being considered beyond the current interventions to address these constraints.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow
1. The congestion along Loyang Avenue and at the intersections with Pasir Ris Drive 3 is due to the temporary road diversions needed for the safe construction of Loyang Viaduct and the Cross Island Line Loyang Station. The road diversions will be removed by the second quarter of 2029.
2. To mitigate the impact, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has widened the surrounding roads where possible, and adjusted traffic signal timings to facilitate smoother traffic flow. The frequency and capacity of bus services have also been increased. LTA is monitoring the traffic conditions along Loyang Avenue and will introduce additional measures where necessary.
