Mr Yip Hon Weng asked the Minister for Transport regarding non-approved devices sold or marketed as seat belt modifications
a. what is the number of casualties linked to such devices over the past two years;
b. how will LTA increase roadside checks for better enforcement against the use of such devices; and
c. whether LTA will collaborate with e-commerce platforms to systematically ban listings of these non-compliant devices.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. The Traffic Police does not track the number of casualties from road accidents linked to non-approved seat belt modification devices.
2. Checks against the use of non-approved devices such as belt stoppers and buckle extensions are conducted during routine enforcement operations. The Government will work with e-commerce platforms to request that they remove listings of such devices.
