Mr Lee Hong Chuang asked the Minister for Transport
a. how does LTA decide on the introduction of City Direct Service (CDS) buses; and
b. whether such services will be introduced for Bukit Batok West residents, in view of the fact that some currently walk to nearby areas like Tengah to access CDS routes to the Central Business District during peak hours.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. City Direct Service buses are generally introduced when there is significant travel demand for direct, peak-hour bus connections to the city centre, especially for areas further away from existing rail connections. As they are more resource intensive, we are more selective on where they are introduced.
2. We recently launched a new City Direct Service 684 to serve Bukit Batok West on 15 June 2026. At the same time, we had amended City Direct Service 674 and 649 to stop along Bukit Batok Road to provide additional options for Bukit Batok West residents.
