Written Reply to Parliamentary Question
Assoc Prof Jamus Jerome Lim asked the Minister for Transport
a. how many bus services operate predominantly with single-deck buses during peak periods and how many cannot deploy double-deck buses due to route or infrastructure constraints;
b. how many requests for peak-period enhancements since 2024 were declined because loading was below LTA's threshold; and
c. whether loading is assessed against the capacity of buses actually deployed.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow
1. As of August 2026, 176 bus services use only single-deck buses during peak periods. Of these, 79 routes are constrained by height clearances and tight turns which prevent use of double-deck buses. All double decker buses are deployed during peak hours when available.
2. Passenger loading is assessed against the capacity of the buses deployed. Besides passenger loading, Land Transport Authority (LTA) considers resource availability, capacity on other adjacent services and alternative travel options when assessing requests for service enhancements.
