Enforcement Actions against Retention and Usage of Deregistered Vehicles and Cases with Links to Organised Syndicates for Past Three Years

Written Reply to Parliamentary Question

Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye asked the Acting Minister for Transport in the past three years

a.      how many enforcement actions have been taken against the illegal retention or use of deregistered vehicles;

b.      the number of vehicles seized and prosecutions commenced; and

c.      what proportion of such cases involved organised syndicates or repeat offenders.

Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:

1.      There are about 2,500 violations annually over the last three years. For most of them, prosecutions have been commenced or concluded. 415 deregistered vehicles have been seized during this period. Approximately 43% of the cases involve repeat offenders.
