Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for Transport whether the Government will consider introducing enhanced support, such as funding for noise insulation measures, for households experiencing prolonged construction noise from major public infrastructure projects, similar to practices adopted in countries such as Germany, where noise mitigation measures are provided.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. Mitigation of noise from major public infrastructure projects is under the purview of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE).
2. Specifically on transport infrastructure projects, the Land Transport Authority's contractors are required to implement noise mitigation measures, such as noise barriers and quieter equipment to comply with MSE's regulations.
3. Based on feedback, contractors have also provided affected residents with additional support, such as window seals or noise curtains, where appropriate.
