Ms Poh Li San asked the Acting Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider extending the maximum age limit for holders of Private Hire Car Driver's Vocational Licences beyond 75 years old on an annual basis provided they are certified fit to drive by doctors.
Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. In consultation with the Singapore Medical Association, the upper statutory age limit will be kept at 75 years old for now. Vocational drivers spend a lot of time on the road and have a significant impact on other road users. They are also responsible for the safety of their passengers. Past statistics show that the accident rate for vocational drivers aged 70-74 was higher than that of younger drivers. The incidence of heart attacks and other chronic diseases among Singaporeans aged 70 and above has also been increasing. We will continue to periodically review the age limit.
