1. From 16 November 2026, Singapore and Malaysia will increase the quota of licensed cross-border taxis under the enhanced Cross-Border Taxi Scheme from the existing 300 per country, to 500 per country. Two new ride-hail operators, CDG Zig Pte Ltd (CDG Zig) and Kumpool Sdn. Bhd. (Kumpool) will also be licensed to operate under the scheme from the same day. Commuters and drivers can look forward to more options for cross-border point-to-point trips, greater convenience and a better commuting experience.
2. On 4th May 2026[1], Singapore and Malaysia had introduced enhancements to the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme to bring greater convenience to travellers while ensuring fair operating conditions for transport providers and drivers in both countries. These included new designated pick-up points for ride-hail/e-hailing bookings, more flexible drop-off points, an increase in the quota of licensed cross-border taxis, and additional requirements to support enforcement against illegal domestic point-to-point trips.
3. Commuters who used cross-border taxis since the enhancements shared that they enjoyed the point-to-point drop-offs anywhere in Singapore and within the operating boundary in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai, and Senai. Families and business travellers could also ride in larger and premium vehicles. Officials from the Ministry of Transport (Singapore), Ministry of Transport (Malaysia), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, and Land Public Transport Agency of Malaysia (Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat or APAD) have continued to work closely on further improvements to cross-border taxi services.
4. From 16 November 2026,
a. LTA and APAD will increase the quota of licensed cross-border taxis for each country to 500 taxis, up from the existing 300 from each country. This will allow more taxis to join the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme and increase the licensed cross-border taxi supply for commuters travelling between the two countries.
b. Two new ride-hail/e-hailing operators – CDG Zig Pte Ltd (CDG Zig) and Kumpool Sdn. Bhd. (Kumpool) – will join GrabCar Ptd Ltd as licensed operators under the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme.
5. This development reflects the continued commitment of Singapore and Malaysia to strengthen cross-border connectivity and enhance the commuting experience for travellers between both countries. The improvements will further strengthen the strong business linkages and people-to-people ties between Singapore and Malaysia.
6. Mr Ng Lang, Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority, said: "The increase in quota is an important step towards strengthening cross-border connectivity between Singapore and Malaysia, and reflects the strong and longstanding cooperation between our two countries. By expanding the availability of licensed cross-border services, we are giving travellers more options and greater flexibility for their journeys. We will continue to work closely with our Malaysian counterparts to improve cross-border travel and better serve the needs of travellers in both countries.”
7. “Malaysia welcomes the progress of expanding the taxi quota and the additional two licensed platform operators as this shows a significant milestone in enhancing the cross-border passenger movement to complement the first-mile-last-mile connectivity between Johor Bahru, Malaysia and Singapore. It is our hope that this new development will signify further enhancement of connectivity between the two great nations”, highlighted Mr. Ahmad Radhi Ma’arof, Director General of the Land Public Transport Agency, Malaysia.
