Written Reply to Parliamentary Question
Mr Fadli Fawzi asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether the company appointed to run the cross-border rail line will be liable for any compensation for the delay in the commencement of operations for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link; and
b. what steps will the Government take, independently or in conjunction with the Malaysian authorities, to prevent further delays in the commencement of passenger service.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow
1. All parties involved in the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project are now focused on working towards the safe commencement of passenger service as soon as possible. Beyond that, the obligations and rights of the parties are set out in various agreements, and will be resolved accordingly.
2. RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO), the operating company for the RTS Link, is carrying out its testing and commissioning activities. It will then obtain safety certification from an independent safety assessor and the required licences from the regulatory authorities of each country. Both Governments will monitor RTSO’s progress and provide support to facilitate the smooth and safe delivery of the project.
