MOT Family Raises $1 Million for Community Chest

1.     The Ministry of Transport and its statutory boards, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and Public Transport Council (PTC) have raised $1 million for Community Chest through the MOT Family Charity Outreach over the past two years to help the disadvantaged in Singapore.

2.     Inaugurated in 2010, the MOT Family Charity Outreach programme has so far raised more than $12 million for Community Chest. Aside from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic, MOT Family hosts beneficiaries from Community Chest each year to a series of fun-filled activities.

3.     This year, 23 children from Fei Yue Family Services (SSO@Taman Jurong), enjoyed an afternoon at the LTA Digital Lab. The children, aged 6 to 12 years old, participated in several interactive activities, such as using augmented reality to navigate inside a train for a treasure hunt and role-playing to learn the importance of gracious behaviour on public transport, together with the senior management of the Transport family, including Minister for Transport, Mr S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State, Mr Chee Hong Tat and Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Baey Yam Keng.

4.     Fei Yue Family Service Centre, which was established in 1991, is among the recipients of donations from the Community Chest. Over the years, Fei Yue has provided assistance to a wide range of people, including children, youths, families, inmates and their families, people with special needs, healthcare needs, and seniors. This support has been delivered through case management, counselling and a variety of initiatives, including psychoeducational workshops, literacy programmes and outings.

5.     Mrs Ling, parent of one of the beneficiaries, said, “During this difficult time, Fei Yue had given me and my child great support as well as arranged many interesting events for my child to attend. I would like to thank everyone at Fei Yue for all the support given.” Mrs Ling’s son, who was at the MOT Family Charity Outreach event earlier said, “I enjoyed the activities, especially the hands-on session on germinating seeds at the LTA Community Garden!”

7.     Mr S Iswaran, who presented the cheque to Mr Chew Sutat, said, “We are happy to be able to host children from Fei Yue Family Services and join them for the activities. The MOT Family is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community, and will continue to support Community Chest and its beneficiaries. We hope that the $1 million raised will help to make a difference.”

About MOT Family Charity Outreach
Agencies under the MOT Family contribute individually to programmes supported by Community Chest. MPA has a CARES Team that organises a series of fund-raising activities and raises awareness for a variety of charitable organisations throughout the year. CAAS has a HOPE fund which helps persons with disabilities in Rainbow Centre as well as rallies the support of the aviation community to raise funds for Community Chest, and LTA has a charity fund, LTA Cares Fund, that makes commuting possible and more accessible for the disadvantaged.
