Over 400 Global Aviation Leaders and Senior Executives Discuss the Future of Aviation in a Post-Pandemic World at Second Edition of Changi Aviation Summit

1.     Over 400 senior government officials and industry leaders from more than 70 countries gathered for the second edition of the Changi Aviation Summit (CAS), held at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre on 19 February 2024. 

2.     Jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), in partnership with Changi Airport Group, Experia Events and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the summit will explore the future of aviation in a post-pandemic world, as global air travel steadily rebounds to pre-pandemic levels, and the sector pivots from recovery to growth. The summit started with a Welcome Dinner on 18 February 2024 and will be followed by an official Opening Ceremony on 19 February 2024, with Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Chee Hong Tat, delivering opening addresses at both events. There will also be a keynote address by Mr Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of the Council, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and sharing on industry perspectives by Mr Willie Walsh, Director General, International Air Transport Association (IATA). 

3.     Themed “The Future of Aviation: Navigating a Post-Pandemic World”, key highlights of the CAS include: 

a)     An Aviation Panel, featuring Ministers of Transport and global aviation leaders who will discuss overcoming challenges and harnessing cooperation in the post-pandemic world. 

b)     Two Focus Panels, comprising public and private sector experts covering the following themes: 

i.     Technology in Aviation: leveraging technology to transform and revolutionise flight, airport operations, and passenger experience; and

ii.    Charting a Sustainable Future for Aviation: Steps the industry needs to take to drive the decarbonisation of the aviation sector in the medium to long term.

c)     Signing of the following Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) and agreements to support global human capital development and promote aviation safety standards in the Asia Pacific region.
