Written Reply to Parliamentary Question
Ms Cassandra Lee asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether the Traffic Police tracks offences involving the use of curtains or sunshades on driver-side windows while driving;
b. if so, whether there has been an upward trend of such offences;
c. what penalties apply; and
d. whether enforcement will be stepped up, in light of recent measures to strengthen enforcement against unsafe driving behaviours.
Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow
1. My response will also address written question in yesterday’s sitting.
2. The use of curtains or sunshades on side windows while driving is not allowed as it obscures the driver’s visibility of the roads and surroundings. Motorists found to be using such curtains or sunshades while driving will be issued warnings and asked to take them down. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police do not track the number of warnings issued.
3. The maximum penalty for this offence is up to S$2,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 6 months.
4. LTA will continue to monitor the situation and step up enforcement efforts, where necessary.
