Mr Lee Hong Chuang asked the Acting Minister for Transport whether there are plans to review current regulations, implement safety standards or promote safer alternatives to transporting workers in the rear of lorries to prevent workplace injuries and accidents.
Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. Government agencies, together with our tripartite partners and the NGOs, have rolled out various measures to improve the safety of workers on lorries. These include requirements for lorries to be fitted with canopies and higher protective side railings, have lower speed limits, and minimum space requirements. Government agencies will continue to engage and work closely with industry and NGOs to explore further improvements to strengthen worker safety.
