Assoc Prof Jamus Jerome Lim asked the Minister for Transport in respect of City Direct Services 654, 671, 677 and 682

a.          what determines their first and last departure times;

b.           whether LTA has assessed if their morning departure windows align with peak travel hours; and

c.           whether LTA will consider extending morning and evening departure windows for commuters with earlier or later working hours.

Reply by Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow

1.          City Direct Services (CDS), including Service 654, 671, 677, and 682, provide an alternative travel option to the MRT for some commuters during periods of highest travel demand to and from the city centre.

2.          To meet commuter needs during the morning peak, CDS are typically timed to depart slightly before the peak of peak, to reach the city centre at around the same time as commuters who use the MRT during that period. As with all other bus services, the Land Transport Authority will periodically review and adjust CDS timings based on ridership demand.
