Reviewing Implementation of Increase in ERP Rates Amid Rising Petrol and Fuel Costs

Miss Rachel Ong asked the Acting Minister for Transport

a.      whether the Government will review the timing of the announced S$1 increase of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates at several expressway gantries from 23 March 2026, in view of the recent rise in petrol prices; and

b.      what are the considerations that led to the implementing of higher ERP charges at this juncture when motorists are already facing higher fuel costs.

Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:

1.      The objective of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) is to manage road congestion. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) reviews ERP rates and operational hours based on traffic conditions on a quarterly basis.

2.      LTA increased ERP rates at four locations in March 2026 as speeds at various stretches of the AYE, CTE and KPE were persistently lower than optimal. This is to encourage motorists to consider travelling at different times or using alternative routes, so as to relieve congestion.
