Senior Minister of State for Transport and National Development Ms Sun Xueling’s Media Soundbite at Sengkang LRT Depot

1.          Works on the Sengkang West Inner Loop have been completed. I am glad to share that we are able to bring forward the normal service by two weeks. So our residents and commuters will be able to take the Sengkang West Inner Loop from the 4th of October, this Saturday.

2.          We were able to achieve this, as the project team on the ground was able to optimise the sequencing of the works. The major and critical works were completed ahead of schedule, and that is why our commuters are able to go back to the normal service for the LRT trains, two weeks in advance.

3.          The construction of the new LRT Depot is ongoing. We are also enhancing the power supply. This is because we want to make sure we are able to have larger fleet of two-car LRV trains. By 2030, we will be able to have entire new fleet of 41 two-car LRV trains, which will help the capacity of the Sengkang-Punggol LRT.

4.          At the same time, we have been looking at the ridership of the Free Off-Peak Rail Travel. We originally had a target of moving about 7%  of commuters to off-peak travel. We are glad to share that the ridership has actually increased to 10% . Because of this, we are extending the Free Off-Peak Rail Travel by another year. We hope that with the extension of this programme, more commuters will use the off-peak rail travel, which will help with the capacity situation, and that it will offer a smoother commute as well for our residents.

5.          我们已经完成盛港西内环线的工程。我们将于这个周日，10月4日，恢复正常的轻轨服务。非常感谢我们乘客的耐心和配合。 

6.          轻轨总站的扩张过程还在进行当中，我们也在升级电力供应。这是为了容纳更多的双节列车。我们其实最近额外购买了八辆双节列车，预计到2030年，我们可以让所有的轻轨列车换成双节列车，总数量是四十一辆。这样，我们能承载更多的乘客，满足盛港榜鹅区居民的需求。

7.          此外，东北线和盛港榜鹅轻轨的非高峰期免费乘车计划的成效显著。之前，我们的目标是让7%的乘客享用这个服务，可是现在我们看到10%的乘客已经转到非高峰期时段出行。所以，我们将继续这个计划，延续多一年，希望通过这个计划，能给予我们的乘客更优惠、更便利的出行。
