Singapore Forms Steering Committee to Guide Autonomous Vehicle Rollout

1.     The Government has formed a Steering Committee on Autonomous Vehicles (AV) to guide the progressive rollout of AVs in Singapore.

2.     Chaired by Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow, the Committee comprises senior representatives from the industry, academia, the unions and the public service. Adopting a whole-of society approach in shaping Singapore’s AV future, the 17-member Committee will look at ensuring AVs are safely integrated into Singapore’s land transport system, create new jobs and improve everyday connectivity for residents.

3.     To deliver on this mandate, the Committee will coordinate efforts across four workgroups:

a.     Near-term deployment of AVs that incorporates residents’ feedback;

b.     Regulations, liability and enforcement to ensure safety and accountability;

c.     Industry and jobs to grow local capabilities, create new jobs and bring workers along in this transition; and

d.     Technology and safety to develop a robust cybersecurity and data policy.

4.     The Committee comprises:

• Industry players who offer AV and related services;

• Academia representatives in transport-related fields;

• Union representative; and

• Government agencies, across sectors such as transport, manpower, urban planning, technology, law and enforcement.
