Singapore Re-Elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization

1.     Singapore was successfully re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for a 17th consecutive term. The election took place during the 34th Session of the IMO Assembly, held in London, United Kingdom on 28 November 2025.

2..     Mr Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, led the Singapore delegation, which included officials from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

3..     Commenting on the re-election, Mr Siow expressed Singapore’s appreciation for the continued support from IMO Member States, “Singapore is honoured to have the opportunity to serve on the IMO Council. We look forward to continued cooperation with fellow Member States to further IMO's vital work in shaping the future of global shipping.”

4..     Singapore was first elected to the IMO Council in 1993 and has since been re-elected to the Council at subsequent biennial IMO Assemblies. Singapore has played an active role within the organisation as an IMO Council Member, contributing significantly to initiatives that enhance navigational safety for the international maritime community, promote efficient and sustainable shipping practices, and protect the marine environment.
