Singapore Re-Elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization at the 41st Session of ICAO Assembly

1. Singapore was successfully re-elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)1 in the elections at the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly held in Montréal, Canada on 1 October 2022.

Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, who led the Singapore delegation to the ICAO Assembly, said, “We are honoured to be re-elected to the Council of the ICAO by the support of fellow ICAO Member States. The strong international collaboration, led by ICAO and supported by Member States and industry, has collectively rebuilt and rejuvenated air travel. Singapore is firmly committed to supporting ICAO in its unwavering efforts to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for international aviation. We stand ready to work with all stakeholders and partners to contribute to these efforts for the benefit of all States.”
3. Singapore was first elected to the Council of the ICAO in 2003, at an extraordinary Assembly session convened to fill three new Council seats. Singapore was subsequently re-elected at the Assembly Sessions held every three years, in 2004 onwards (2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019).
4. Singapore participates in over 100 ICAO panels and expert groups, including in lead roles, to help shape international standards in areas such as aviation safety and security; air traffic management; and environmental protection.
5. Singapore also contributes significantly to aviation human capital development. The Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA)2, the training arm of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), provides a wide range of specialised aviation training programmes for civil aviation leaders and professionals worldwide. Through the SAA and its partnerships with other leading international aviation organisations, and academic and training institutions, Singapore has also established various platforms for aviation leaders and experts to exchange insights and put forward ideas to advance international civil aviation.
