Singapore Re-elected To the Council of The International Maritime Organization

1.     Singapore was successfully re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for a 16th consecutive term at the 33rd Session of the IMO Assembly, held in London, United Kingdom on 1 December 2023.

2.     The Singapore delegation that attended the IMO Assembly, comprising officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, was led by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

3.     On Singapore’s successful re-election, Mr Chee Hong Tat, Acting Minister for Transport said, “Singapore is honoured to be re-elected to the IMO Council and is grateful for the support of our fellow IMO Member States. The IMO plays a critical role in balancing the various needs of safety, security and environmental protection of the maritime sector. Singapore will continue to contribute actively towards the IMO’s goals.”

4.     Singapore was first elected to the IMO Council in 1993 and has since been re-elected to the Council at subsequent biennial IMO Assemblies. As an IMO Council Member, Singapore has played an active role in the IMO, serving in leadership positions, making significant contributions towards enhancing navigational safety for the international maritime community, promoting efficient and sustainable shipping, and protecting the marine environment.
