Singapore Reaffirms its Commitment towards ICAO’s Efforts for a Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Future for International Aviation

Key Highlights at the 41st Session of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Assembly
1. Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Mr S Iswaran, and Senior Minister of State (Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment), Dr Amy Khor, are attending the 41st Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly in Montréal, Canada. The 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly is being held from 27 September to 7 October 2022.
Close and Continued Collaboration with Transport Counterparts
2. At the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly, Minister Iswaran called for close and continued collaboration among ICAO, States, industry, and all aviation stakeholders, so that States and the international aviation sector can emerge stronger from COVID-19. He also highlighted Singapore’s firm commitment to support ICAO in its efforts to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for international aviation. Singapore continues to stand ready to work with all stakeholders to contribute to these efforts for the benefit of all States.
3. Minister Iswaran and SMS Khor met with Mr Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of the Council of the ICAO and Mr Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of the ICAO. Minister and SMS Khor reaffirmed Singapore’s strong support for the ICAO’s work and leadership, including in areas of aviation recovery, sustainability, and training.
Memorandum of Cooperation on Sustainable Aviation between Singapore and the United States
4. Minister Iswaran and Mr Pete Buttigieg, United States Secretary of Transportation signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC)1 on sustainable aviation on Wednesday, 28 September 2022, covering areas on policy and regulation, industry development, future infrastructure planning and provision, and workforce transformation, at the side-lines of the Assembly. Minister Iswaran and Secretary Buttigieg also agreed to strengthen and deepen bilateral exchanges, including through co-operation in the areas of digitalisation and sustainability in the transport sector.
Memorandum of Understanding to update the Open Skies Agreement between Singapore and United Kingdom
5. Singapore and the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to update the Open Skies Agreement2 between the two countries and to work together to promote the sustainable development of aviation. The MOU was signed by Minister Iswaran and Ms Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Secretary of State for Transport, United Kingdom on Wednesday, 28 September 2022.

6. Minister Iswaran and SMS Khor also had separate meetings with their transport counterparts and reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to collaborate and build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for international aviation.
7. 8. SMS Khor will also be meeting Mr Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Belize, Mrs Dagmawit Moges, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Ethiopia, and Mr Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Republic of Korea, in the coming days.
