1. Singapore has concluded an Open Skies Agreement (OSA) with Maldives on 1 July 2019.
2. The OSA was signed by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health, Dr Lam Pin Min, and Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Abdulla Shahid.
3. Under the OSA, the airlines of Singapore and Maldives will be able to operate any number of passenger and/or cargo services between and beyond both countries, using any aircraft type. Singapore carriers currently operate a total of 20 weekly services to Malé. Dr Lam said, “The signing of the OSA underscores the strong bilateral ties between Singapore and Maldives, and will enable greater movement of people and goods between the two countries to benefit both our economies.”
4. Singapore adopts a liberal aviation policy in order to further enhance its connectivity to the rest of the world. This enables businesses to extend their market reach and forge partnerships, and people to foster cultural links and personal ties that span the globe. With the signing of the Singapore-Maldives OSA, Singapore has concluded Air Services Agreements with more than 140 States and Territories, of which over half are OSAs.
