Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan:
1. The following table indicates the number of reported cases of Outrage of Modesty (OM) on public transport over the past 5 years.
Table showing the number of reported outrage of modesty (OM) cases on public transport from 2013 to 2017.
Year | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 |
Number of reported cases of OM on public transport | 154 | 166 | 163 | 129 | 207 |
2. The Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Public Transport Security Command of the Singapore Police Force (TransCom), and the Public Transport Operators (PTOs) have taken steps to educate commuters about OM, including several public education campaigns over the years. Commuters are encouraged to report such cases, and every report is treated seriously.
3. LTA, TransCom and the PTOs will continue to work together to tackle OM on public transport and improve the safety and security of our commuters.
