Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye asked the Minister for Transport whether LTA will review the approval process for public bus service route diversions so that the public transport operators can better respond to traffic conditions.
Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan:
1. Bus operators are currently required to seek LTA's approval before proceeding with route diversions. This is to ensure that buses are not diverted unnecessarily, thereby inconveniencing commuters on board. LTA typically grants approvals within 15 minutes. Should the road be impassable, bus operators have the autonomy to proceed with route diversion. LTA reviews this process periodically.
