Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Minister for Transport
a. other than cases involving loss of lives, pollution or safety of navigation, what are the categories of maritime casualties in the Straits of Singapore and the port of Singapore which MPA keeps records of; and
b. what is the number of such cases in each of the past ten years.
Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan:
1. Other than major marine incidents involving loss of lives, pollution or safety of navigation, MPA also tracks reported incidents of lesser severity within our port limits and the Straits of Singapore (Singapore Territorial Waters). Between 2007 and 2017, there has been an average of 9 collision, 9 sinking, 30 grounding and 71 contact incidents reported in these waters per year.
