Mr Liang Eng Hwa asked the Minister for Transport
a. what has been the results of LTA's studies on the installation of sound barriers along expressways where there are high densities of public housing; and
b. what are the possible additional measures that can be taken to reduce the intense noise from expressway traffic such as that along KJE and BKE where there are large numbers of noise-emitting motorcycles and lorries from Malaysia.
Reply by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan:
1. LTA is conducting trials on the effectiveness of noise barriers along West Coast Highway, certain stretches of PIE, as well as a new flyover along Braddell Road. Preliminary results have been positive.
2. Aside from noise barriers, LTA is also studying a road surface material that can dampen traffic noise levels.
