Ms Hany Soh asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will allow carpooling by taxi operators so as to maximise the usage capacity of each vehicle and also reduce the country's overall carbon footprint.
Reply by Minister for Transport Ong Ye Kung:
1. There is no regulation prohibiting taxi operators, and other Point-to-Point (P2P) operators, from pooling passengers and creating a new service. In fact, GrabShare and RydePool are existing services that allow commuters to share a ride on a taxi or a private hire car (PHC) with other passengers heading in the same direction. However, in view of the COVID-19 situation, Grab and Ryde have decided to take precautions to suspend the GrabShare and RydePool services on their own accord.
