Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether LTA can consider installing mandatory Red Amber Green (RAG) signals for right turns in junctions within a 100-metre radius of schools; and
b. of the 600 or so RAG signals planned to be installed by 2024, whether LTA can expedite the installations of those near schools first.

1. LTA is prioritising the installation of Red Amber Green (RAG) signals at traffic junctions around schools to safeguard students’ safety. To date, more than 60% of the junctions within 100 metres of a school have been fitted with RAG signals. Beyond the 100-metre radius, LTA is also expediting the implementation of RAG signals at traffic junctions that are heavily utilised by students, such as those near transport nodes.
2. In addition to implementing RAG signals to safeguard students’ safety, the School Zone scheme includes traffic calming measures such as lighted alert signs, pedestrian crossings, road humps and road markings to encourage safe driving behaviour within the school vicinity.
