Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Minister for Transport
a. what is the current mass public transport modal share during peak periods; and
b. what specific initiatives and projects is the Ministry introducing to support its 2030 target for a 75% mass public transport modal share during peak periods.
Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. The peak-period mode share of all motorised journeys for mass public transport was 66% last year. Once the Jurong Region Line and Cross Island Line are completed by the early 2030s, eight in 10 households will be within a 10-minute walk from a train station.
2. Under the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme, the Land Transport Authority is improving bus services for residents farther away from transport nodes. These efforts are aimed at improving the attractiveness of public transport.
