Mr Desmond Choo asked the Minister for Transport
a. whether CAAS has conducted a study into the recent spate of technical issues affecting Scoot Airlines and, if so, what are the findings; and
b. whether CAAS has been working with the airline to improve their safety performances and, if so, how.
Reply by Minister for Transport S Iswaran:
1. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) take a serious view of all aviation safety incidents. Both CAAS and MOT’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) investigate thoroughly all safety incidents of Singapore air carriers, and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to ensure that the aircraft are operated safely.
2. Scoot’s current safety incident rate is similar to its incident rate pre-COVID. It is also similar to the other Singapore air carriers’ current average incident rate. CAAS will continue to monitor and carry out safety audits and inspections of Singapore air carriers to ensure a high level of safety in their aircraft operations.
