Mr Sharael Taha asked the Minister for Transport
a. how long will the trial to power up Raffles Lighthouse with tidal energy last; and
b. what are the other opportunities of harnessing tidal energy in Singapore.
Reply by Minister for Transport S Iswaran:
1. The trial to power Raffles Lighthouse using tidal energy is expected to run for six months.
2. Should the trial show that tidal energy is viable, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore will study suitable sea areas around Singapore where tidal energy can be adopted.
