Continued Collaboration with Transport Counterparts in the Asia-Pacific Region

1.     Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Mr S Iswaran, attended the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transportation Ministerial Meeting (TMM), held in Detroit, United States from 15 to 17 May 2023.  

2.     The theme for the 11th APEC TMM is “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All.” At the meeting, Minister Iswaran participated in the panel discussion on “Addressing Transportation’s Role in Climate Change”. Minister Iswaran called for the need to translate the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) long-term aspirational goal (LTAG) into concrete and actionable pathway to decarbonise the international aviation sector. He also reiterated Singapore’s commitment to work closely with ICAO, Governments, industry partners and other aviation stakeholders, to contribute to international aviation sustainability. 3.     At the side-lines of the APEC TMM, Minister Iswaran met his transport counterparts from the APEC economies, including Mr Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation, United States; Ms Catherine King, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government, Australia; Haji Mohd Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Transport, Brunei Darussalam; Mr Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, Canada; Mr Wang Gang, Vice Minister of Transport, People’s Republic of China; Mr Lam Sai-Hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Transport, Hong Kong, China; Mr Eo Myeong-so, Vice Minister for Transport, Republic of Korea; Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah, Deputy Minister of Transport, Malaysia; Mr Walter Schnaubelt, Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Papua New Guinea; Ms Paola Lazarte, Minister of Transport and Communications, Peru; and Mr Mark Harper, Secretary of State for Transport, United Kingdom

International Summit on Investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

4.     Minister Iswaran also participated in the inaugural Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) Investment Summit on 15 May 2023, alongside Secretary Buttigieg, Minister Alghabra, and Secretary Harper. At the Summit, Minister Iswaran outlined three key ways to scale the adoption of SAF – (i) developing the supply chain; (ii) enhancing demand signals; and (iii) strengthening international and industry collaboration.
