Singapore recognises the vital role of our seafarers and maritime frontline workers in keeping supply chains open. Our port introduced contactless operations and has remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We tested our frontline workers regularly and vaccinated them swiftly. Singapore has also been committed to facilitating crew change.
The Singapore Shipping Tripartite Resilience (SG-STAR) Fund is the first global ground-up tripartite initiative, with international partners including the International Transport Workers’ Federation, the International Maritime Employers’ Council, and the International Chamber of Shipping, to work with stakeholders in seafaring nations on concrete solutions for safe crew changes. The SG-STAR Fund was established by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Singapore Shipping Association alongside seafarers’ unions – the Singapore Maritime Officers' Union, and the Singapore Organisation of Seamen. Between March 2020 and Dec 2021, Singapore has facilitated more than 200,000 crew changes.
