1 in 5 Resident Households to Benefit from Largest Public Transport Voucher Exercise to Date

08 Oct 2019Press Releases
1.     1 in 5 resident households will be eligible for the 2019 Public Transport Voucher Exercise. A total of 450,000 Public Transport Vouchers (PTVs) will be made available – the largest number set aside in a single Public Transport Voucher Exercise. Each of the 450,000 Public Transport Vouchers is worth $50, up from $30 in the 2018 PTV Exercise. The PTVs helps lower-income households cope with the fare adjustment that will take effect at the end of the year.

2.     To ensure that public transport remains affordable, especially for the lower-income households, the Government has revised the eligibility guidelines for the 2019 Public Transport Voucher Exercise to cover all households with monthly household income from all sources  per person of not more than $1,200. This covers around 1 in 5 households, compared to about 1 in 10 previously.

3.     Eligible households can apply for the vouchers at their local community centres/clubs (CCs) from Monday, 11 November 2019 to Saturday, 31 October 2020. Each voucher covers the fare increase for a typical household of two adults and two dependents for about half a year. The vouchers can be used to purchase or top up fare cards, or buy monthly concession passes.

4.     Households that require more help can apply for additional vouchers through the CCs. The Citizens’ Consultative Committees (CCCs) assess each application, and help deserving cases who marginally miss these criteria, or provide additional PTVs to households which may be deemed to need more help. Residents may approach their local CCs if they have any queries.
