Ms Mariam Jaafar asked the Acting Minister for Transport
a. how does the Ministry monitor the safety and maintenance of road conditions in areas with heavy construction activity, such as such as in Woodlands; and
b. what measures are the Ministry considering to ensure timely but also durable and effective repairs.
Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:
1. Critical road defects such as potholes are fixed within a day. Beyond critical road defects, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has a comprehensive inspection and maintenance regime for our road network, including roads with heavy construction activities. Roads are inspected regularly using video analytics to detect road defects and determine the need for road resurfacing. LTA is also considering using cameras on public buses to detect road defects. In addition, LTA is working with the industry and Institutes of Higher Learning to research and potentially deploy more durable and sustainable road mixes to minimise road defects and the need for maintenance.
