Singapore Hosts Fifth International Accident Investigation Forum

1     Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB), a division of the Ministry of Transport, has hosted about 90 participants from 31 countries and administrations, as well as safety professionals from the aviation industry, at the 5th International Accident Investigation (IAI) Forum held from 18 – 20 May 2022.

2     Co-organised by and held at the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), this triennial Forum brings together the international safety investigation community to explore issues relating to the organisation, infrastructure, management and emerging issues related to accident investigation.  The forum receives strong support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) and the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI).  

3     During the three-day IAI Forum, delegates discussed topics such as the upcoming amendments to ICAO’s standards and policies affecting air accident investigation, challenges and lessons learnt from recent investigations, as well as emerging challenges for safety investigators. The keynote speaker at this year’s Forum was Mr. Stephen Creamer, Director of ICAO Air Navigation Bureau.

4     Mr. Loh Ngai Seng, Permanent Secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Transport, graced the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome address on 18 May 2022.

5     Through the collective sharing of professional knowledge, methodologies and general insights by the participants, the Forum aims to help improve air safety to the benefit of future passengers and all stakeholders.

6     The TSIB would like to thank its co-host, SAA, and the participants for making the Forum a success.
