Tackling Maritime Challenges Through Innovation, Lifelong Learning, and Enhanced International Cooperation

1.     Acting Minister for Transport, Mr Chee Hong Tat, attended the 2023 World Marine Equipment Conference in Fuzhou, China, on 12 October 2023, where he delivered an opening speech on tackling challenges facing the maritime industry through innovative breakthroughs, lifelong learning, and international cooperation. 

2.     The 2023 World Marine Equipment Conference was co-hosted by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, and the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, and organised by the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government and China Center for Information Industry Development. 

3.     In Mr Chee’s opening speech, he spoke about how the global maritime community can tackle challenges facing the industry, such as strengthening global supply chain resilience, accelerating digitalisation, and scaling up decarbonisation efforts, by riding the waves of change and harnessing innovation (“乘风破浪”), embracing lifelong learning to equip maritime workers with future-ready skills (“学海无涯”), and enhancing international collaboration to tackle challenges together (“风雨同舟”).  

4.     Mr Chee also met with Mr Zhou Zuyi, Party Secretary of Fujian Province, where they had a fruitful exchange on the importance of transport connectivity to support economic growth and people-to-people exchanges. Mr Chee also thanked Party Secretary Zhou for his government’s support for PSA International to expand its container port operations in Fuzhou and Xiamen. 

5.     Mr Chee was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
