Mr David Hoe asked the Acting Minister for Transport what are the mean and median weekday door-to-door commute times incurred from home to work or school and vice versa, based on LTA’s latest available Household Travel Survey, disaggregated by (i) household types and (ii) income quartiles or quintiles.

Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:

1.     The Land Transport Authority’s latest Household Travel Survey in 2024 found that for most housing types, (i) mean and median travel times to school was between 30 to 35 minutes, and 25 to 30 minutes respectively; and (ii) mean and median travel times to work was between 40 to 45 minutes, and 35 to 45 minutes respectively. There was no significant trend by housing types, other than those living in landed house reporting slightly longer travel times to schools compared to those living in Housing and Development Board flats.

2.     For most income groups, mean and median travel times were between (i) 30 to 35 minutes to school, and (ii) 40 to 45 minutes to work. Likewise, there was no significant trend by income types, other than those of the highest income band from the survey reporting slightly shorter travel times to work.
