Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Development of Assistive Technology for Visually Impaired Public Transport Users

25 Sep 2025In Parliament

Mr Lee Hong Chuang asked the Acting Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider developing or supporting the development of a mobile application designed for persons who are visually impaired to provide real time audio alerts on approaching bus numbers in order to enhance independent and inclusive access to public transportation.

Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:

1.     Between 2019 and 2024, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) partnered with SG Enable and the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped to trial a mobile application that can provide audio updates of bus arrivals at select bus stops, to help visually-impaired passengers identify the bus they wish to board.

2.     LTA is currently reviewing the outcomes of the trial, with the intention of extending it to more bus services and areas, if successful.
