Miss Rachel Ong asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider subjecting motorised Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs) that are stored in HDB flats to third-party safety testing and regular maintenance requirements to ensure safety of users and neighbours of surrounding HDB flats.
Reply by Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat:
1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is studying the standards for lithium-ion batteries in Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs), as part of regularly reviewing safety standards for PMAs, as well as other measures to enhance safety for both device users and the public.
2. LTA and the Singapore Civil Defence Force will continue to educate the public on the safe usage of active mobility devices through campaigns such as the ‘Be Device-Safe Programme’. Active mobility device users are reminded to use only original batteries and maintain their devices according to manufacturer guidelines, and not to modify their devices.
