Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Relationship Between Rail Service Reliability and Public Transport Adoption

23 Sep 2025In Parliament

Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Acting Minister for Transport

a.     whether the Ministry has conducted studies on the relationship between rail service reliability and public transport adoption.

Reply by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow:

1.     The Ministry has not conducted specific studies examining the relationship between rail service reliability and public transport adoption.

2.     Nonetheless, public transport continues to be a widely used mode of travel. In 2024, 66% of peak period journeys were completed using public transport, and this proportion has been growing steadily over time.

3.     The vast majority of these journeys are completed smoothly, reflecting the overall reliability of the public transport system.
